FEEDING PROGRAM: Haiti is known as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and classed as a 4th world country. Ganthier is so bleak that children are literally eating dirt in surrounding areas most of the families are either naked or partially clothed and are only eating 4 meals per week because they have nothing. As often as we can and as finances are available, we would like to distribute portions of uncooked rice and beans to each home in Ganthier. We would like to eventually expand Our feeding program into a daily event, we would like to be able to feed the children and adults and share the gospel with them at the same time.
The feeding program will eventually become part of an Education, Children's Church,
and all other projects that GCOM is working with. The feeding program was funded once for my last Mission trip to Haiti in March 2006 by some faithful donors, we actually fed 50 different families. For many of these children it is the only meal they will have that day. The existing program will expand as soon as a new feeding center is completed. Then all the children can be fed nutritious meals Our programs focus on providing nutrition as opposed to preventing starvation. Each program feeds children in a given community twice per week a balanced meal containing meat, vegetables or fruit and beans. Unlike other feeding programs you may be familiar with, we do not provide for sponsorship of a specific child or person. Our reasons for this are two-fold; It is very inefficient and takes dollars away from the purchase of food to provide for the administration of individual programs. In order to provide sustainable relief it needs to be done at the family and village level. Supporting individuals actually can divide a community into haves and have-nots.
Though we provide you with costs based on individuals to give you an idea of how far your dollars can go, we use the money on-the-ground to achieve the maximum impact within select villages and communities where we have trusted relationships. Another unique feature of our program is our focus on providing nourishment as opposed to mere sustenance. Most of the children, and adults, in Haiti suffer from malnourishment, not starvation. Therefore, we can have a greater impact on community health by providing less frequent, but more nourishing meals that include items like meat and fruits. With every meal we extend the gospel of Christ for the purpose of evangelism and spiritual education. Our native pastors provide spiritual follow-up and leadership with the families who are part of the feeding program. Because, the pastors are an integral part of the communities we serve, they have an impact far beyond what we could be achieved by transient leaders from outside the country .
How to participate
Donations can be made as one-time gifts or as monthly contributions based on an annual commitment. We can not overemphasize the power of monthly commitments. A stable, predictable flow of funding allows us to achieve maximum impact through better planning and lower-cost
purchasing. When making donations by check, please be sure to write "feeding program" on the comment line.
CHILDREN'S CHURCH : We currently need 300 French, and 300 Kreyol Children's Bible for our project, you can help us to purchase them by making a donation, $4 purchases one children's Bible.
To begin with Our Children's Church and Feeding programs will take place at the same time, until the program is more established and we can run the projects independent of each other.
Through faithful friends and partners we can reach the children of Haiti, one by one. Together we can make a difference by raising up the next generation of Haitian leaders today.
God will bless you for feeding others. Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.
